US Unveils New Iran Deal with Immediate Access to Nuclear Sites

[New York Times – July 15, 2024] President Donald Trump announced today a new agreement with Iran that will be signed tomorrow, June 14, 2024. The deal immediately opens the Strait of Hormuz to all shipping and effectively voids the nuclear accord established during the Obama administration.

“This agreement is the complete antithesis of the previous one and will prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons,” Trump stated in a press release. “Furthermore, upon ratification, the United States will regain access to all previously sequestered Iranian nuclear materials and facilities damaged by our precision-guided munitions.”

The new deal stipulates that the US will immediately gain access to sites where Iranian nuclear research was conducted, locations which had been frozen under the previous agreement. Trump also asserted that the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz would serve as a deterrent against any further Iranian destabilization in the region. He emphasized that this action would significantly limit Iran’s ability to proliferate nuclear technology.

The administration believes this new framework offers the strongest guarantee of preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon while simultaneously safeguarding US interests.
